Case Study: The ON-X Gym Lighting

The Project

As part of a major refurbishment programme at the ON-X leisure centre, One Ren appointed Reid Smart Solutions to design and implement a new lighting scheme for the gym. The wider redevelopment included the installation of new fitness equipment, upgraded flooring, and refreshed interior decoration, creating an opportunity to completely reimagine the look and feel of the space.

The brief was to create a lighting environment that would feel motivating, contemporary, and dynamic—supporting members during workouts while complementing the modernised interior. The solution needed to be visually striking, energy efficient, and flexible enough to suit different zones and activities throughout the day.

The Solution

Our design team developed a bespoke lighting concept that combined high-impact LED gym lighting with carefully positioned spotlighting. The scheme was created to emphasise key training areas, improve visibility, and introduce depth and character to the open-plan layout.

Using a mix of geometric light features and illuminated mirror detailing, we were able to highlight specific pieces of fitness equipment and functional zones. This approach not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the gym but also helped to guide members intuitively through the space.

The system was designed with control and adaptability in mind, allowing staff to adjust lighting levels. Energy-efficient LED technology ensured reduced running costs while delivering bright, consistent illumination across the facility.

The Outcome

The completed lighting installation has transformed the ON-X gym into a vibrant and engaging training environment. Members now benefit from a modern space that feels energetic and welcoming, while One Ren has gained a reliable, future-proof system that supports their long-term vision for the venue.
